Author Interview: Susi Hawke, Peppermint Spiced Omega

Sweet & Spicy is starting a new series of interviews so our awesome readers can get to know their favorite authors even better. Our next interviewee is Susi Hawke author of all your favorite summer mpreg hit! She's here to discuss her newest release, Peppermint Spiced Omega.

Peppermint Spiced Omega is available for purchase on Amazon.com.

Q: Welcome to the Sweet & Spicy blog, Susi! Let’s talk about your new book, Peppermint Spiced Omega. It’s been hotly anticipated by your readers—why’s that?

A: Thanks for having me! Hmm, okay. "Tom would love for Susi to tell the nice people about Tom's book." If you get the joke, then you've probably read one of the first two books in my Hollydale Omegas series. Tom is a popular character that speaks in the third person. At first people find him annoying, then they fall in love with him. I got so many reader messages about Tom that it was almost intimidating to write his story! I knew from the beginning that he spoke that way as a defense mechanism. He had big protective walls around his snarky little heart. I had fun finding his truth and bringing it to life. This is what I describe as a Hallmark style holiday novella. It will make you giggle, cry, and then giggle some more. Although, it's probably a little steamier than Hallmark!

Q: Readers love catching up with all your characters—which ones are your favorites? Do you have any books in store for other fan favorites, like Tom?

A: Tom was my biggest favorite. But after having written it? I really can't wait to get into Ian's story. Ian is the alpha that everyone assumed Tom would end up with, because they were an item earlier in the series. I always knew that they wouldn't work, though. Tom needed his "hot daddy" Colin. Ian wasn't ready for Tom. I think that he will wake up now and think about how life is passing by, and maybe be a teensy bit sad about "the one that got away." Ian's story will be the next book. As you may have figured out, each of the Hollydale books is loosely set up around a different holiday. "Champagne Spiced Omega" will be the New Year's themed one. It's due next month and will show Ian finding his own happily ever after.

Q: Since mpreg readers and authors really love the genre, we’d love to know—what drew you to mpreg? What’s your favorite thing about writing it?

A: I accidentally discovered mpreg! I love shifter books, and Kiki Burrelli's Finding Finn was suggested by Amazon after I bought an MM wolf shifter book. I had no idea it was mpreg, or what mpreg even was, for that matter. I was so entranced by the idea of an alternate universe where men can get pregnant that I dove headfirst into the genre. I was working on a gay romance book when I was challenged in a writer's forum to try something new for thirty days. I decided to try writing an mpreg. I figured it would help me hone my skills for MM. I had no idea how much I would love writing it!

The idea of flipping gender inequality on its head was fascinating to me. Mpreg puts Omega males in the position of being treated like a submissive "weaker" role. I like showing that the members of society that are perceived as being weak are actually the ones with hidden reserves of strength. Almost overnight, I found myself completely immersed and in love with mpreg. I have no idea if or when I'll ever pursue that unfinished MM book I was working on, because I'm here to stay with mpreg... if the readers will keep letting me tell them my stories, that is!

As for my favorite thing about writing it? I love writing snarky twink omegas and the big, goofy alphas that worship them. Also, fated mates! Who wouldn't want a mate that's the other half of your soul? The concept is so romantic!

Q: What’s on your schedule for the future? Anything exciting readers can expect from you in the next few months?

A: My upcoming schedule is jam packed and filled with more than one surprise. I'm launching a new fantasy mpreg series that springboards off of my Northern Pines Den series. It will feature more shifters of a larger variety—not only will we have jaguars, bears, and wolves, we will also meet foxes, coyotes, and more. This series involve psychic gifts, an ancient history involving a war between the gods and the fae, and the descendants of the original shamans that helped end that war. As the descendants rush to close the portal that the fae are trying to use to enter our world and attack, beguile, and take over, the legacy couples will come together as true mates and work together to save the world from the fae. There will also be a forgetful phoenix and her two faithful French gargoyle protectors who will help guide each couple on their journey. This series is called The Blood Legacy Chronicles and will debut in early December.

Following that, I have more surprises on the horizon. I won't give away all my secrets, but let me just hint at a couple co-writing projects I have scheduled with a few other popular mpreg authors. It's going to be EPIC!

Q: Where can your fans keep in touch with you if they want to stay updated?

My reader group on Facebook is the best! We get silly in there, and I give away snippets and reveals of works in progress. Last week I did a contest, and the winners got to name Tom's twins. They were also given a mention in the dedication.

Q: Thanks so much for your time, Susi!

A: It was my pleasure! I am very honored to have been given the opportunity to speak with you. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Author Interview: Garett Groves, Rock My Heart

Sweet & Spicy is starting a new series of interviews so our awesome readers can get to know their favorite authors even better. Our first interviewee is Garett Groves, author of the Spice of Life series and Clickbait. He's here to discuss his newest release, Rock My Heart.

Rock My Heart is available for purchase on Amazon.com.

Q: Hi Garett, welcome to the Sweet & Spicy blog! Jumping right in, what can you tell us about your brand new rock star romance?

A: Thanks for having me, I’m excited to be part of this. So, yeah, my new book is called Rock My Heart and it is in fact a rock star romance—with a May/December twist. It tells the story of Blaze, the lead singer of the hard rock band HEX, and Darren, a young guitar prodigy who’s hired to fill in on the lead guitarist slot for the band’s 20-year anniversary tour. The two characters pretty quickly realize there’s chemistry between them on and off stage and in typical rock star fashion, things get larger than life before either of them knows it.

Q: Sounds intriguing! Since you mentioned it, as an author, you’re known for writing May/December stories. Were there any particular reasons you decided to write about a May/December rock star relationship? How about any challenges?

A: I’ve always loved rock music—I grew up on a steady diet of classic rock thanks to my parents—so when it came time to brainstorm a new book, the concept of rock stars grabbed me. I’m fascinated by the role that the media and the Internet plays in our lives, so I really loved the idea of toying with a May/December couple who lives their entire lives in the public eye.

As for challenges, I’d say the toughest part was wrangling the tour schedule around the romance and keeping the relationship as realistic as possible. When you’re writing about characters who live exciting lives like rock stars, it’s easy to forget that they don’t have unlimited resources or lose track of the fact that those people want the same basic things that we all do.

Q: Interesting! What was the inspiration for this book? Was there anything specific you could point to?

A: Good question! I’m kind of embarrassed to admit this, but a lot of the inspiration for the book came from my own personal life. When I was a teen I was in a rock band with some of my best friends and I had dreams of making it big in music, which sadly didn’t pan out, haha. Also, I recently joined a church choir, so music has been on my mind a lot. So, I just thought that there were too many signs for me to ignore. It was almost like I was destined to write this book or something.

Q: So, what’s next for you? Any other books in the pipeline you can share with us?

A: Sure! As anyone who’s been to a store recently knows, we’re entering the holiday season and I’m a major sucker for cheesy Christmas celebrations and rituals. So, I’m planning to release a series of three, possibly four, holiday novellas, all of which take place in the same small town and revolve around the concept of what home means to different people. And, of course, they’re all May/December stories!

The first is called Coming Home, and I’m aiming to release it in mid-November. The rest of the series will be released not long after leading up to Christmas and New Year’s. I’m really excited to cheese up people’s Kindles with holiday cheer. 🙂

Q: Awesome! Is there anything else coming up for you that you’d like to share? Where can readers find you online if they’ve never read anything from you before?

A: Right now, I’m all focused on finishing up the series of holiday novellas, so I don’t have anything besides that, though I’m working on some big plans for next year. If readers would like to check me out, the best place is on my website at: www.garettgroves.com or on Facebook, which I’m pretty active on.

Q: Alright, perfect. Thank you so much for being our guest, Garett!

A: Absolutely, thanks for having me!
